AFRL/DELS “remote landing strip illuminator” program

This program demonstrated advanced concepts for marking improvised landing strips for special-ops.  The program design goals were to utilize commercial batteries AAA and/or 9V alkaline to power a remotely controlled marker beacons with selectable wavelengths of  white, blue, red and IR emissions that are visible at minimum slant range of 3 miles, preferably 9 miles.  Mr. Allison did the detailed design for both the remote control transmitter and the remote beacon electronics, worked with the software engineer in code development and supervised the electronics technicians during the assembly and testing.  The team built five proto-type remote beacon units and one remote control transmitter that were tested at the White Sands Stallion Range, NM.  The beacons were successfully observed at a 3+ mile slant range and the concept development system was delivered to a special ops unit in Nevada for further evaluations.
